Baby squirrels are called kittens.





They nurse from their mother until almost 2 months old - after that they will eat nuts, acorns, wheat, fruit, bird's eggs, and mushrooms. Sometimes they will also eat leaves, berries, seeds, oak buds, and corn as well as insects, moths, bird eggs and nestling birds.





A newborn squirrel squirrel is about one inch long and weighs as little as half and ounce to one ounce.





The mother looks after the ';kittens'; until they're about 3 months old, after that they're on their own because ';mommy and daddy'; squirrel are working on another batch of babies.
