Yes, squirrels can be opportunistic feeders and often raid nests to eat eggs..so I would not doubt that they would eat a baby bird if presented with one. It is also possible another predator ate the baby bird before the squirrel got there...a cat, another bird, raccoon, rodent, etc. Do squirrels eat baby birds?
